My name is Jo and I live in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. Before training to become a counsellor, I worked in both the education sector and hospitality.
I have been fascinated by psychology from a very young age and started studying child psychology when I left school (quite a long time ago!) which covered subjects such as attachment theory. This sowed the seed for the future and I continued onto study Therapeutic Counselling, completing my FdA in Counselling with University of Gloucestershire.
I first started counselling at The Nelson Trust in Stroud, offering therapy to adults recovering from alcohol and substance abuse. I joined TIC+ (Teens in Crisis) in 2019 during which time I completed my Diploma in CYPS Counselling. I am a Senior Counsellor at TIC+ providing counselling to young people between the ages of 9-21 years of age in schools, colleges and community settings all over Gloucestershire. I am also a Counselling Coordinator at TIC+.
I am a qualified, BACP registered integrative counsellor, using a combination of Humanistic and Psychodynamic theory. Each and every person is unique, so I adapt my approach depending on what you need from your counselling experience. In brief, a Humanistic approach means that my aim is to experience the world from your viewpoint in the here & now. Psychodynamic theory is used to explore your past experiences as far back as your childhood. Often our behaviours and the way we see the world relates back to our earliest experiences. Sessions are weekly and are not time limited to a certain number of weeks. The work we do together will be reviewed regularly, so the number of sessions is based on you and your needs. However, I can also offer brief, solution focussed therapy.
I offer 1-2-1, 50 minute counselling sessions in Cheltenham at a cost of £50
I offer remote video counselling via Zoom, 50 minute sessions at a cost of £50
I am happy to have an informal 15 minute chat with you to see if my service is right for you. You can reach me by filling in the contact form and I will respond within 24 hours.
